rise and shine!

I admit I have trouble getting up in the morning every now and then. The more comfortable the bed, the better the covers-tempurature ratio, the greater the hindrances the night before in getting a full, satisfying span of rest, the unispiring appointments to go to in the morning ..... the excuses can add up easily. Sometimes it helps to have a little prodding to get out the door.

When I was little, my mom used to give one call into the room (hey, it's time to get up!), and then would come in and pull back the curtains. If I was having additional trouble waking, she would come in and sing:

Mr. Sun, Sun,
Mr. Golden Sun,
Please shine down on me.

The other day I employed the tried and true "Skillet and Spoon" method to wake someone from her dreaminess. What methods have you used, or have been used on you? What method do you least prefer?

I just don't like being woke up by anyone in the morning. Just tell me it's time to wake and keep your distance. I always wake up grouchy! The best reaction I've gotten from my husband was when I reached over and closed his lips for him while he was snoring. He instantly was wide awake and shot out of bed like a rocket. He thought someone was trying to suffocate him. KIDS: don't try this at home! WIVES: try at your own risk...it does work though!

Did you really bang on a skillet with a spoon to wake your fair princess? Hopefully the little Mrs. responded with a shoe to your face!

i was laughing so much before i even got in the room that i didn't stay long enough to be pelted by a shoe.

banging a pan would not be fun to wake up to. Seriously I would not laugh about it and there'd be a big fight once I got out of bed. It was easy to wake me as a child. I guess I was a light sleeper. Usually all I'd have to hear was the door opening. But occasionally like on a saturday or something my mom would come in and sing...
Rise and Shine
And give God the Glory Glory
or
Good Morning
Good Morning
It's time to great the day
Good Morning
Good Morning
To you

oh, it's not hard to wake me, but it is hard to get me to get out of the warm, soft bed. but, banging on a pan is not the best way.

although... i'm not sure what would actually be a good way.

maybe a nice breakfast of waffles, eggs, sausage, malt-o-meal, orange juice, milk, warm butter, and fruit roll-ups.

in my family it is tradition to throw the cat at the person sleeping so that upon impact both the person and the cat get out of bed quickly...poor Bootsie
