chillin'

Bearing about the same common sense as a neanderthal chasing a wildebeest with a club, I decided to run 12 miles today in 91 degree heat. I know, I know. Shame, shame.

Believe it or not though, it allowed me to test my revolutionary method of cooling down after a hot run. I've never done this before, but today I decided to eat two ice-cold Jello pudding pops within 20 minutes of returning to my house. I usually don't have much of a stomach for food after running long in the heat (does anyone?), but for some reason, the pudding pops looked amazing and were so good I considered turning them into an entire meal.

Here's my question: Do you have any other cool (and I mean cool) ideas for cooling down after a run like today's?

i hear there's a pool in your neighborhood, i bet that would feel great after a long run.

my solution is pretty simple: skip the run and go straight to the pool.

That reminds me of a video game my roommate had in Minnesota. I think it was called Animal Farm, and basically you won the game if you were a really good farmer (feed the chickens, milk the cow, water your crops, etc.) My roommate's girlfriend was helping him get started and she said, "Okay, it's 5am and you just woke up. What do you want to do first?" He laughed and said, "For goodness sake, go back to sleep!"

Monty, you are the first man to write on this blog in far too long. Welcome back. I can vouch for you that you guess my yarn after only the first three clues.

Oh, and I'll have to hear your cooling method in private (over on my PG-13 blog).

You don't want to go overboard in the "cooling department" after a hot run as it could generate "brain freeze". I prefer watching you run and get all hot and sweaty but in the rare instance I have to run I like to dump a cold glass of water down my shirt. Of course all the water then runs down and makes me look like I've wet my pants, but at least I'm cool!

I usually like to make it rain after a long run so I can play in the puddles for awhile. Of course, this method doesn't work for everyone so be patient if your calls to the heavens don't bring an immediate downpour. It's a gift, what can I say?
